Matt Beard sacked as Liverpool FC Women’s coach

Liverpool have parted ways with manager Matt Beard, with the club sitting seventh in the Women’s Super League.

Beard, 47, guided Liverpool back into the WSL during his second spell in charge and led them to a fourth-place finish last season. However, with the Reds now mid-table and nine points clear of bottom-placed Crystal Palace, the club has opted for a change.

“We have all experienced some fantastic moments with Matt as manager of LFC Women and we express our gratitude for his significant contribution,” the club said in a statement.

Liverpool cited the need to “build on momentum” as the driving force behind the decision, despite Beard’s success in securing WSL promotion in 2022.

Amber Whiteley will take interim charge while the club begins the search for a permanent replacement.

Beard, who previously managed Bristol City and West Ham, won back-to-back WSL titles in his first stint with Liverpool, cementing his legacy at the club.
