CDC study hints undetected bird flu cases even without symptoms |
A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that cases of H5 bird flu in humans and animals may be going undetected. The agency tested 150 bovine veterinarians for bird flu antibodies, revealing that three individuals had antibodies despite reporting no flu-like symptoms.
Notably, two of the veterinarians had no known exposure to infected animals, while the third was located in a state where no bird flu cases in cattle had been reported. The findings raise concerns that asymptomatic or mild infections could be more common than previously thought.
H5 Bird Flu: Current situation
H5 bird flu continues to spread globally among wild birds, poultry, and dairy cattle. While the CDC maintains that the public health risk remains low, officials are closely monitoring the situation and collaborating with state agencies to track cases among individuals exposed to infected animals.
The CDC is utilizing its flu surveillance systems to detect any signs of human-to-human transmission, which has not yet been reported.
