KARACHI:
The port city is grappling with a severe water shortage as repairs on major supply lines have disrupted distribution. Over the past two days, Karachi has been deprived of 500 million gallons of water per day, affecting nearly 70% of the metropolis.
According to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), maintenance work is underway on the main water supply lines, resulting in a shutdown at the Dhabeji pumping station. This has significantly impacted water supply to large parts of the city. Due to the shutdown, the corporation has been unable to provide 500 million gallons of water over the past two days.
A spokesperson for the Water Corporation stated that Karachi receives 400 million gallons of water daily, but ongoing repairs have reduced supply by 250 million gallons. The repair work is expected to be completed by Monday evening, with normal water distribution anticipated by Tuesday.
Water supply remains suspended in several areas, including Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, the Old City Area, Liaquatabad, PIB Colony, Nazimabad, Golimar, and Federal B Area.
