AI innovation takes centre stage at Qatar Web Summit 2025 |
The second annual Web Summit in Doha has become a focal point for discussions on the future of artificial intelligence (AI), with leading entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators gathered to explore the rapid transformation of the tech landscape.
Held in Qatar’s capital, the four-day event is set to address the most pressing questions surrounding AI, attracting over 25,000 attendees from 124 countries, including more than 1,520 start-ups and 600 investors. The summit kicked off its second day with a keen focus on AI advancements, as the technology continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace.
Entrepreneurs such as Alexander Wang, founder and CEO of Scale AI, and Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, took centre stage, sharing insights on AI’s global impact. Wang noted that the US and China are at the forefront of AI development, with most countries and companies likely to build their AI systems using either of the two nations’ technology stacks. He highlighted the competition between the two tech giants and the need for others to catch up swiftly.
Qatar, which aims to become a regional AI leader, is leveraging its gas wealth to push ahead with ambitious plans. The country recently signed a five-year partnership with Scale AI to enhance government services through AI-powered tools and training, marking a significant step in its quest for technological dominance in the Middle East.
In addition to AI, the summit is tackling various emerging innovations, reflecting Qatar’s growing role as a global tech hub. The Web Summit, which began in 2009 in Dublin with just 150 attendees, has evolved into one of the world’s largest technology conferences, attracting industry leaders, policymakers, and start-up founders keen to shape the future of digital technology.
