Heirs of Libya ship wreck victims to get Rs1m payout each

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet on Friday approved special compensation of Rs1 million each for the families of 16 victims of the Libya boat tragedy. The cabinet also decided to arrange Iftar meals in shelter homes across the province.

It also sanctioned grant-in-aid of Rs1 million for the arrangements of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting in Peshawar for the sighting of the Ramazan moon.

The 26th meeting of the K-P cabinet was held under the chair of Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur. The cabinet reviewed one year performance and achievements of the provincial government.

The meeting was attended by cabinet members, chief secretary, Inspector General of Police, additional chief secretaries, senior member Board of Revenue, advocate general and administrative secretaries.

At the outset, the cabinet condemned the suicide attack on Darul Uloom Haqania, Akora Khattak, and offered Fatiha for the departed souls and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The meeting was informed that a total of 661 decisions were made during the last 25 cabinet meetings in one year, out of which 610 decisions have been implemented, reflecting a 92% success rate. The cabinet also reviewed achievements in public finance management, service delivery and infrastructure, public access to services and information, citizen engagement and transparency, social protection and inclusion, economic growth and job creation, education and human capital development, tourism and cultural heritage promotion, and health services for all citizens without discrimination.

The cabinet approved the establishment of 12 permanent intra-provincial and Inter-provincial joint check posts (IJCPs) for anti-smuggling. They will be established in Khyber, Malakand, South Waziristan, Nowshera, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, D.I.Khan and Peshawar.

The cabinet also approved forwarding a request to the federal government for the arrangement of Rs3.1 billion in funds to support anti-smuggling measures. It also sanctioned the release of Rs10 million as annual grant-in-aid for Hamza Foundation for the current financial year. It was also directed to explore if such services could be incorporated in the sehat card scheme so that such entities do not need to make requests every year.

The cabinet also green-lighted the enhancement of cost of the ADP project for 6 Type-D hospitals in the merged districts through Health Foundation (AIP) and two hospitals by the health department. Financial assistance was also approved for a lung transplant patient seeking treatment abroad. It also approved the appointment of Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Policy Board members.

The cabinet approved 4th revised PC-I and 19% enhanced cost for the project ‘Strengthening of the Rehabilitation Services for Physically Disabled at Health Department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’.

Furthermore, the cabinet agreed to change the status of the ADP Scheme “200062-Establishment of Small Industrial Estate in Bajaur (AIP)” on the PCFMS portal. The chief minister termed the project as crucial for the industrial development of the district, which has great potential.

The cabinet approved the renovation of a building for Senior Citizen Club Peshawar at a cost of Rs80 million and transfer of the existing building from Local Government Election & Rural Development Department to the Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Empowerment Department.

It also okayed amendments in section (4) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Road Transport Ordinance, 1961. The cabinet approved forwarding of resolution No. 133 adopted by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to the federal government. The resolution pertains to the Kashmir cause and demands rights for the people of Kashmir as per the United Nations resolutions.

The chief minister appreciated the exemplary performance of the cabinet and departments despite facing enormous challenges. “It is our good performance that speaks louder than the words,” he remarked.
