Six killed in ambush

GUJRANWALA:

At least six people were killed when their vehicle was ambushed by unidentified assailants in Gujrat district.

The victims were traveling to a village in a vehicle when it came under attack in the Dinga area.

The attackers accosted the vehicle on a motorcycle and opened fire at the victims, killing all six on the spot.

According to the police, the victims belonged to the same village. Preliminary investigation showed that the attackers chased the vehicle of the victims before opening fire at them.

A security guard was among those killed in the attack. Five of the deceased were identified as 30-year-old Zahid Nazim, 26-year-old Mubashir, 30-year-old Zunair, 33-year-old Javed Iqbal and 35-year-old Rukhsar.

A 26-year-old man killed in the attack could not be identified till the evening.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the area police arrived on the spot.

Gujranwala Regional Police Officer Tayyab Hafeez Cheema sought a report on the incident from the Gujrat district police officer (DPO).

The RPO said the incident appeared to be linked with personal enmity.
