Safe kite flying
Lahore’s new prohibitions on kite flying do not strike the right balance between keeping people safe and preserving treasured traditions. While metal-coated kite strings are indeed dangerous, several countries around the world have created designated safe spaces for kite flying while protecting both safety and cultural traditions. Why don’t we follow their example?
I also think that the real solution lies in holding string producers accountable rather than levying excessive penalties against kite enthusiasts and children. A better approach would combine designated kite zones with usage regulations and strict string manufacturing restrictions. The Punjab government must reconsider their current approach and develop strategies to ensure public safety and cultural heritage preservation.
