‘Victims’ netted for backtracking on rape charges

Lodhran:

For the first time in the history of Lodhran district, cases have been registered under the Anti-Rape Act against three women who changed their statements in rape and molestation cases after initially accusing individuals of the crimes.

The police have arrested the women for retracting their testimonies and allegedly attempting to protect the accused for personal motives.

According to the police report, the first case was registered at Saddar Police Station, Lodhran, where a woman had lodged a complaint on February 8, accusing two men, Arbaaz and Akhtar, of molesting her son.

However, during court proceedings, she retracted her statement, claiming she had forgiven the accused after being persuaded by local dignitaries and relatives.

The police, however, determined that she had altered her testimony out of selfish motives (Tama Nafsani).

Consequently, a case was registered against her under the Anti-Rape Act, and she was taken into custody.

In the second case, registered at Saddar Police Station, Dunyapur, a woman had accused two individuals of gang-raping her daughter. However, she and her daughter later changed their statements in court, siding with the accused.

District Police Officer Kamran Mumtaz stated that the plaintiff and the victim had deliberately misrepresented the facts and concealed the real incident for personal reasons.
