Climate duties
As Pakistan battles merciless floods, extreme heatwaves, and unforgiving droughts, those with huge wealth and power stay disengaged. The same billionaires whose industries and lifestyles accelerate this crisis close their eyes to when the most vulnerable lose their homes, livelihoods, and even lives. Their silence is a direct complicity in the crisis, their inaction inexcusable. Their industries and extravagant lifestyles increase emissions, whereas the poor suffer the consequences of climate change. Instead of waiting for international aid, Pakistan’s ultra-wealthy must step up by investing in climate preparedness, renewable energy, and disaster relief. Policymakers must also impose taxes on excessive wealth and corporate polluters, directing those funds toward climate adaptation.
