Sustainable peace

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) administration’s consistent advocacy for peace negotiations with the Afghan Taliban possesses merit, particularly given the disproportionate impact on the province from terrorism and militancy. This necessitates a cohesive and concerted effort from all state institutions. Integrating all relevant entities into the peace initiative will ensure policy coherence and enhance the prospect of achieving lasting stability. If peace is the paramount objective, all viable avenues must be explored. The inclusion of substantive and constructive input from the province most affected by terrorism will undoubtedly contribute to positive outcomes.

The prevalence of terrorism and militancy has become a persistent challenge for KP. The recent deadly attack on the Bannu Cantonment, resulting in the deaths of several terrorists and the martyrdom of security forces and civilians, serves as a stark reminder of the nation’s vulnerability. Despite the implementation of various ideological and operational frameworks, the state has yet to effectively address the challenges posed by terrorism. While short-term measures, such as kinetic operations, are essential, a comprehensive and enduring solution requires a long-term strategy. This strategy must be formulated and executed by the central government, with substantial input from the KP administration and its people.
