Speakers say the role of the media is of paramount importance to tackle the challenges of the rapidly growing population, Pakistan’s rapidly growing population is a major obstacle to achieving national development goals.
The Population Council organized a National Media Coalition Meeting with the help of UNFPA, attended by journalists from leading media organizations from all over Pakistan and emphasized the need to use the media for important national issues such as population and resources.

In his welcome words, Dr Ali Mir, senior director of the Population Council, emphasized the urgent need to tackle the growing population in Pakistan, which is jeopardizing economic stability, distribution of resources, and the ability to meet the country’s development goals.
He emphasized the need for collective measures while highlighting public issues like health, education and lack of employment. He said that the power of the media can overcome the growing population and the problems arising from the population of the media as well as improving policy -making.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Manager of the Population Council, Communications Ikram al -Ahad, highlighted the role of the media for positive social change globally.
He said that the media has played a vital role in the positive social changes that have taken place all over the world and many social issues can be overcome through journalism in Pakistan. The fast growing population has now become a major social problem for Pakistan.
Ali Mazhar Chaudhry, director of the Population Council, led a session to effectively maintain the population agenda through the media.
Coalition members worked on a strategic plan to advance the statement to promote sustainable increase in population, identifying important sectors for media coverage.
These include the rapidly growing population and the negative effects of climate change, the empowerment of women, the education of women, the inclusion of welfare population indicators, the need to increase political commitment, the Lady Health Workers (LHW) providing family planning services, and the maintenance of family planning services.

He said that journalists have to take into account institutional priorities and political sensitivity, but the role of the media is of paramount importance in highlighting important social issues such as increasingly growing population.
Journalists attending the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to utilize their professional skills to bring the population to a sustainable level.
