Details of the last 5 year deficit presented in the House

Islamabad: The Ministry of Commerce has presented details of the last 5 years deficit in the House.

According to documents presented in the National Assembly, a trade deficit of $ 154 billion has occurred in the last five years. And $ 136 billion was exported. During the last 5 years, imports of $ 291 billion have been reported. The main reason for the increase in imports is economic growth.

The trade deficit increased to $ 23 billion 16 million in fiscal year 2020. And in the financial year 2021, the trade deficit rose to $ 31 billion 8 million. In the financial year 2022, the trade deficit increased to $ 48 billion 35 million. In the financial year 2023, the trade deficit increased to $ 27 billion 47 million. And last fiscal year 2024, the trade deficit was $ 24 billion 11 million.

Solar panels, transformers and electricity delivery equipment increased by 60 % in the financial year 2025. While imports of electricity delivery equipment reached $ 31.9 million.

According to the documents, industrial machinery equipment increased by 20 %, textile machinery increased by 40 %. Imports of auto parts increased by 58 %.
