Heartless man sets wife ablaze

In a shocking incident, a woman was set on fire by her own husband for forbidding him from having relations with other women.

Rabia, the victim, was tortured before being doused with petrol and set ablaze in the Korangi Mehran Town area. Rabia had married Waqas of her own choice two years ago but his behaviour had been troublesome from the beginning of their life together.

He often beat and tortured her, and maintained relations with other women. On March 14, when Waqas failed to return home until late at night, Rabia, tired of her husband’s behaviour and infidelities, called the number of a girl named Amina. Waqas answered the phone and began a verbal onslaught against Rabia.

He then returned home at 11:45pm, tortured and set his wife on fire, leaving her with 40% burns. When found, she was rushed to the burns ward of the Civil Hospital to receive medical treatment. Police took the statement of the victim on her deathbed.

The case was registered two days later, on March 16, in the Korangi Industrial Area police station as per the complaint of the victim under an attempt to murder clause. The police then handed the case over to the investigation police who arrested the accused during an operation in Azeem Pura on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, Rabia’s brother Muhammad Jamal revealed that Waqas had made threats if the incident was registered, however, he continues to demand justice for his sister.
