What is Dogequest? Website that released personal data of Tesla owners

A website called “Dogequest” has reportedly published the personal information of Tesla owners across the United States, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails.

The site, which features an interactive map, also lists Tesla dealership locations, charging stations, and the details of employees from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk.

The site’s operators have stated that they will remove personal information about Tesla owners only if they provide proof of selling their electric vehicle.

The website uses a Molotov cocktail image as its cursor, further raising concerns over its potential to incite violence.

“Dogequest” has been linked to several incidents of vandalism targeting Tesla owners and dealerships.

Recent reports include incidents of arson, with a suspect in Las Vegas setting multiple Tesla vehicles on fire.

Tesla owners, particularly those with the newly released Cybertruck, have also faced verbal abuse and harassment.

While the website claims neutrality, it encourages “creative expressions of protest,” which critics argue could escalate harassment against Tesla drivers. This comes amid ongoing protests against Musk’s role in the Trump administration’s efforts to reduce government spending, which has led to growing tensions and backlash.

Tesla’s stock price has dropped 6% following the rise in protests and the negative publicity surrounding the company. Since December 2024, the stock has plummeted by 53%, with some investors calling for Musk to step down as CEO due to the impact on Tesla’s market performance.

The Justice Department has not commented on the situation. The act of doxing, which involves sharing private information without consent, can lead to harassment and legal consequences, although no specific federal law criminalises it.

The growing backlash against Tesla and its CEO is further complicated by Musk’s position at DOGE, which has been responsible for controversial decisions such as the firing of thousands of federal workers. This has led to increasing calls for action from officials, with some urging the FBI to investigate the cyber group behind the website.

As protests continue and the company’s reputation faces mounting damage, even early investors are calling for Musk to step down as CEO, citing the impact of his actions on Tesla’s market performance.
