Aliens warned to ‘leave US now or pay $700 per day’ |

US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has said that hundreds of illegal immigrants have already used the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Home app to self-deport, warning that individuals with final removal orders could face fines of up to $700 per day if they remained in the US.

The CBP app was part of the President Donald Trump administration’s broader immigration enforcement strategy. Noem wrote on Truth Social this week that the app gives aliens the option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future.

According to Indian media outlets, PhD student Rajani Srinivasan was one of the first to access the self-deportation option. Srinivasan had left the US after Homeland Security cited her involvement in activities supporting Hamas.

The app’s feature is part of a $200 million “Stay Out and Leave Now” campaign, which urges undocumented immigrants to leave voluntarily. Noem appeared in an advertisement for the campaign, saying: “President Trump has a clear message: if you are here illegally, we will find you and deport you.”

She emphasised significant progress made in reducing illegal border crossings under the current administration. She reported a 95% decrease in illegal crossings compared to the previous administration, with daily encounters reaching historic lows.

She attributed this success to stricter enforcement measures implemented by the Trump administration, including the resumption of border wall construction. Additionally, she revealing, that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested over 32,000 individuals since Trump took office in January.

After returning to the White House, President Trump has introduced a new policy targeting undocumented immigrants. The policy is part of Trump’s aggressive immigration enforcement strategy, aimed at reducing the number of undocumented immigrants through stricter measures.
