North Korea to reopen to foreign tourists this year

Pyongyang: North Korea will open the arrival of foreign tourists in December this year. Due to Corona, the arrival of foreign tourists has been banned in North Korea for almost 5 years.

According to a foreign news agency, a local partner company in North Korea has confirmed that tourist flights to Samjeon and possibly the rest of the country will officially resume in December 2024.

The North Korean city of Samjeon, located near the mountainous region on the border with China, is considered the gateway to Mount Paekto.

According to official information, late leader Kim Jong Il was born in this city. His son and successor, Kim Jong-un, devoted enormous resources to developing the area and building hotels and sky resorts there.

According to the report, tourists will be able to visit the Samjeon region this winter.

It should be noted that North Korea closed its border in early 2020 to prevent the spread of the Covid epidemic. It even barred its citizens from entering the country for several years.

Before the corona epidemic, the arrival of tourists in North Korea was limited and their annual number was about 5 thousand.

Americans accounted for 20 percent of North Korea’s tourism market. Later, due to the imprisonment and then death of an American student, Otto Warmpierre, Washington imposed a travel ban on North Korea.
