Maulana Fazl rejects proposed draft on constitutional amendments

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – While declaring it unacceptable, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman Wednesday rejected the government’s proposed draft on constitutional amendments.

Maulana Fazl said during an informal conversation with journalists at the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser that the government’s original draft had entirely been dismissed after review.

While questioning the credibility of the process, Maulana said that the ruling coalition then claimed it wasn’t even their draft. “What kind of game was being played?”

Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that it was impossible to pass the constitutional amendment without Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s consent.

He said that a rough draft had been presented to which the JUI had more objections than the PPP, adding that the PPP would send its draft to the JUI so that a unanimous draft could be prepared.
