
Liverpool beat West Ham, advance in Carabao Cup

LIVERPOOL: Defending champions Liverpool decimated West Ham United 5-1 on Wednesday to advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
It was a rough start for Liverpool in their match against West Ham on Wednesday. 21 minutes into the game, their own defender, Jarell Amorin Quansah, scored an own goal after a corner kick created havoc in Liverpool’s. Aaron Cresswell attempted to clear the ball, which ended up being deflected off of Quansah’s leg and into the back of their own net.
Barcelona beat Getafe to continue winning streak
Liverpool would strike back in the 25th minute. A cross from Cody Gakpo would find Federuci Chiesa, whose shot would bounce off the ground before landing on Diogo Jota’s head who hit it over West Ham’s goalkeeper, Łukasz Fabiański’s head.
Liverpool would increase their lead minutes into the second half, after a ball from Curtis Jones slipped through into West Ham’s box and onto Jota’s boot who struck it along the ground and into the net.
The score would become 3-1 in the 74th minute, after Mohamed Salah would beautifully slide a ball trhough to Bradley, who would then find Lucas Paqueta. Pacqueta’s strike was stopped by Fabianski, but the shot had enough force to bounce back to Salah, who hit it back to the West Ham goalkeeper. Despite a decent effort, the ball deflected off Fabianski and into the top of West Ham’s net.
Manchester City headed to fourth round after defeating Watford
Things would get even worse for West Ham after Edson Alvarez received a red card minutes after Liverpool’s last goal.
In the final moments of the game, Gakpo dealt West Ham another cut before putting salt in the wound in stoppage time. In the 90th minute, an incredible strike from just inside the box found the bottom left corner of West Ham’s net. Then minutes later, Gakpo fought off a defender to hit another shot from the edge of the box, which was deflected off of Jean-Clair Todibo and into the bottom left corner of the net.
The defending champions advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
