Barcelona beat Getafe to continue winning streak

Barcelona: La Liga leaders Barcelona won their seventh consecutive game on Wednesday, beating out Getafe by one goal, who have failed to defeat Barca in their last seven encounters with the club.

Barca hasn’t ever lost to Getafe at their home stadium, but it was an early scare for them in the eighth minute that woke them up. Alex Sola won the ball from Lamine Yamal, quickly sending a cross that was met by Carles Perez’s head, but ended up safely in the hands of Inaki Pena.

Getafe found themselves with another chance in the sixteenth minute after Christantus Uche found Perez, but he was ruled offside.

In the 18^th minute Barca broke through, as Robert Lewandowski found the back of the net. Yamal passed the ball forward to Jules Kounde, who sent a cross into the box that deflected off Getafe goalkeeper David Soria, before landing in front of Lewandowski.

It was the seventh goal of the La Liga season for the Pole and Barca found themselves up 1-0.

Invigorated and full of confidence, Barca continued to pile on the pressure, getting another chance just a few minutes later in the 25^th. Raphinha sent a cross that was deflected off a defender before finding Yamal who shot the ball just wide.

Four minutes later, Barca had yet another chance to increase their lead, as Alejandro Balde found Raphinha, who shot the ball well wide.

Just a minute later, Yamal sent a cross into the box which found Lewandowski, who found the back of the net. But he was ruled offside. Lewandowski kept on the pressure, receiving another ball in the box just a minute later. He was onside this time, but Soria was able to make the save.

Barca’s onslaught showed no signs of stopping, as Yamal had his own attempt on goal which went wide in the 41^st minute. Yamal had another attempt on goal in the 58^th minute of the second half, sending a beautiful shot towards the top left corner of Getafe’s goal. Soria made an incredible save to keep Getafe just one goal away from equalising.

Attempt after attempt, Barca struggled to find the net, but Getafe struggled to put up any offense at all. That was until Juan Iglesias sent a cross into the box in stoppage time towards, Borja Mayoral who only had Pena in front of him. It would have been a dramatic end to the game, but unfortunately Mayoral wasn’t able to connect properly.
