Magnitude 6.8 earthquake hits Tonga Islands

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake was recorded in the Tonga Islands. However, no tsunami warning was issued.

According to the foreign news agency, the depth of the earthquake in the Tonga Islands in the Pacific Ocean was 10 km. The tremors of the earthquake were felt at 9:05 a.m. local time.

The epicenter of the earthquake was about 300 kilometers northeast of Tonga’s capital, Nuku’ala, in an offshore area.

Due to the earthquake, people got scared and came out of the buildings. While not issuing a tsunami warning, the authorities said that there is no danger of a tsunami.

There were no immediate reports of casualties due to the earthquake in the Tonga Islands.
