Masood and Shafique lead Pakistan’s charge against England

MULTAN: Before Pakistan and England took their lunch break on Monday, Captain Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique were leading the charge. Pakistan currently stand at 122 for one.

Pakistan’s Captain, Shan Masood, was the first to make a half century on Monday, scoring 61 runs off 59 balls before the teams broke for lunch.

Masood brought a sense of stability back to the side after Saim Ayoub was caught out by the wicket keeper in the fourth over. Gus Atkinson, who is making his overseas debut, was able to get a wicket in only his 10th delivery. Ayoub wasn’t able to get much behind his strike, allowing wicketkeeper Jamie Smith to take an easy catch.

The Pakistan skipper was able to hit seven fours, hitting a pair of boundaries back to back in the sixteenth over, and two more shortly after in the eighteenth.

Pakistani opener Abdullah Shafique scored 53 runs off 82 deliveries. Shafique has hit five fours so far. Two of those came in the 24th over, which he closed out with a stunning strike for his first six that cleared the long on boundary by some distance.

One more over was played before the teams took their lunch break.
