
Pakistan demands investigation into theft and illegal sale of Indian nuclear material
New York: Pakistan has asked the Security Council to investigate the theft and illegal sale of nuclear material in India.
Pakistan expressed deep concern over the successive incidents of theft and illegal sale of nuclear and other radioactive materials in neighboring India. Pakistan demanded an investigation from the UN Security Council.
Addressing the Security Council meeting, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram said that Pakistan is concerned about the theft and illegal sale of nuclear materials in India.
He said that Pakistan has drawn the attention of the Security Council to this recent incident. In which one group was found to be in illegal possession of highly radioactive and toxic californium worth 100 million dollars. 3 other cases of californium theft were also reported in India in 2021.

Munir Akram demanded a full investigation of these incidents and urged the Security Council to take appropriate measures to prevent their recurrence.
He said that Pakistan has successfully fulfilled its obligations under UN Resolution 1540. This includes the establishment of a strong command and control system, legislative and administrative mechanisms to control the transfer of sensitive goods and technologies, and a comprehensive export control system in line with international standards.
