India’s War Frenzy, Approval for Nuclear-Powered Attack Submarines
New Delhi: India has approved plans for two nuclear-powered attack submarines worth $5.4 billion.
According to a foreign news agency, two defense officials confirmed that the project will cost more than 5 billion. India is trying to modernize its military in view of China’s growing presence in the Indian Ocean region.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, added that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet has initially approved the induction of two nuclear attack submarines into the Indian Navy.
It should be noted that China is the largest naval force in the world with more than 370 ships. India considers it a concern for its security. Relations soured in 2020 after 24 soldiers were killed in clashes along their Himalayan border.
A fast nuclear submarine is quieter and capable of staying underwater longer than conventional diesel-powered craft. Which makes them more difficult to detect.
