Record increase in debt during first 6 months of government

KARACHI: In the first 6 months, the current government surpassed the caretaker government in terms of loans.

According to the State Bank document, the loan amount has increased by 561% during the current regime compared to the caretaker government.

According to the documents, during March to August 2024, the debt of the federal government increased by 5 thousand 552 billion rupees. After which, by August 2024, the debt of the federal government had reached 70 thousand 362 billion rupees.

Earlier, during the 6 months of caretaker government from September 2023 to February 2024, the debt of the federal government increased by 840 billion rupees.

Thus, in February 2024, the debt of the federal government was 64 thousand 810 billion rupees. In which a several hundred times increase was seen in the next 6 months. Earlier, in August 2023, the debt of the federal government was 63 thousand 970 billion rupees.
