Record growth in electric vehicle purchases in the UK

LONDON: Purchases of used electric vehicles in the UK have reached record levels.

According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) statistics, 53,423 electric vehicles were sold between July and September. This number is 57 percent higher than the sales during the same period last year.

Additionally, sales of used hybrids and plug-in hybrids also saw an increase of 35.8 percent and 29 percent respectively. While 1120 thousand petrol cars (5.7 percent increase) and 680 thousand diesel cars (3.9 percent decrease) were owned by the owners.

The used car market grew by 4.3 percent with overall sales of 1.97 million units.
