MALAGA: Tennis legend, Rafael Nadal, delivered an emotional farewell at the Martin Carpena centre court, marking an end to his remarkable tennis career.
The 38-year-old talked about the long journey into tennis he undertook. “I feel privileged for the career I have had, which has exceeded my expectations”.

The Spaniard talked about the significance of personal integrity and the friendships he cultivated throughout his time in the sport.
Nadal’s final match took place during the Davis Cup quarter-finals, where Spain took on Netherlands. Nadal was brutally eliminated after a 2-1 defeat in his last professional match.
In the opening singles, the tennis titan was defeated by Botic van de Zandschulp, with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-4.
In the doubles rubber, van de Zandschulp and Wesley Koolhof won with a scoreline of 7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/3), advancing to the semi-finals against either Canada or Germany.
Nadal’s participation had been uncertain due to ongoing injury and a lack of competitive play since July. However, he was ultimately confirmed to play by team captain, David Ferrer.
Having achieved an impressive record of 29 wins in 30 David Cup singles since his debut in 2004, Nadal’s performance was met with overwhelming support from the crowd.
However, he faced stiff resistance from Zandschulp, who took advantage of Nadal’s reduced physical condition.
The Spaniard conceded, admitting “I am not in the rhythm of the competition”. He expressed a sense of acceptance regarding his performance.
Tributes poured in for the tennis titan, including heartfelt messages from fellow tennis legend, Roger Federer. Nadal and Federer’s rivalry had been legendary on and off the court during their peak.
Federer lauded Nadal’s extraordinary achievements, including his record 14 French Open titles.

The old rival reminisced about their shared experiences, remarking that “You made Spain proud (…) you made the whole tennis world proud”.
