The Sugar Mills Association has termed the news of sugar price hike as baseless and said that there is no truth in the news regarding the price hike.
According to the association, the government had allowed the export of surplus sugar on the condition that the ex-mill price of sugar remains up to Rs 140 per kg. The retail prices of sugar in different parts of the country are up to Rs 130.
Prices of 11 commodities decreased, 18 increased, 22 remained stable
Since the end of the last crushing season 2023-24, sugar has been selling well below its cost of production, with sugarcane prices almost doubling in the last two crushing seasons, according to the Sugar Mills Association.
The increase in the price of sugarcane has increased the production cost of sugar, the association has demanded from the government to take strict action against sugar speculators.
It should be noted that Federal Minister for Industry and Production and National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain has denied the news of increase in sugar prices. He said that the price of sugar is below the limit of 140 rupees. The retail price of sugar is Rs 130 and the wholesale price is Rs 124-125.

He said that sugar prices are being strictly monitored on the instructions of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, media should play a responsible role and not spread wrong information.
Effective measures by the government to control sugar prices continue, assuring the public that sugar prices are under control. There is no truth in the news of the increase.
