Mavericks get revenge on Curry and the Warriors
”
SAN FRANCISCO: The Dallas Mavericks beat the Golden State Warriors 143 to 133 on Sunday night, in the second game of this season’s series between the two sides.
Stephen Curry showed out back in November when former teammate Klay Thompson made his return to Chase Center. But, the Warriors’ star was unable to find the same success on Sunday, as the 95 combined points scored by Luka Doncic, Klay Thompson, and Kyrie Irving was just too much to overcome.
THE GAME
The Mavericks dominated from the first frame to the last, only ever facing a deficit in the first minute of the match after Andrew Wiggins opened up scoring for the Warriors with a three-point jump shot. Dallas found themselves up by 19 points in the latter half of the quarter, after Kyrie Irving converted a rebound grabbed by Daniel Gafford into a layup. The Warriors would be down by 13 points at the end of the first and Doncic would have 15.

A couple fo late three points from Wiggins and Draymond Green would help the Warriors bring the game within seven by the end of the second. However, Doncic would continue to apply pressure, hitting a fadeaway jumper in the opening moments of the third to bring up 30 points. Six minutes later, the Mavericks star would have 40 points, after he hit a deep three from the top of the key. Dallas’ lead continued to balloon, with a layup from Kyrie put the Mavericks up by 16 with less than two minutes left in the frame. A three-point jumpshot from Curry, a dunk from Gary Patyon junior, and four quick points from Jonathan Kuminga, would help bring the game within seven points once again by the end of the quarter.
The Warriors closed in on Dallas in the first two minutes of the last quarter. A three-point jump shot from Wiggins and a layup from Curry would reduce the deficit. Moments later, Chase Center would explode, as Curry would throw an alley-oop for Kuminga, who slammed it threw the net, reducing the lead to three. Momentum seemed to be shifting, but four quick points from Kyrie and a jump shot from Doncic increased the lead back up to eight.
Klay Thompson would then takeover the match in the final frame’s latter half, getting revenge on his former teammates for the defeat Dallas suffered last month. Thompson would score 13 points in the last 6:30 seconds of the match, beginning with three buckets from beyond the arc, followed by four made free throws.
Doncic would end the game with an incredible 45 points. Thompson would be the games next highest scorer with 29, 21 of which came from his seven threes. Irving would also contribute another 21. Stephen Curry would be the highest scorer for the Warriors with 26 points, and just like his former teammate, the vast majority came from his seven threes.
Dallas would win emphatically, 143 to 133, bringing their record to 17 wins and nine losses, placing them fourth in the Western Conference. The Warriors are seventh, with a record of 14 wins and 11 losses. After a fantastic start to the season, Golden State began to struggle. They have lost eight of their last eleven matches.
