Recap: Australia decimate India on rained out pitch

BRISBANE: After Australia lost their last three wickets in their first innings, India crumbled immediately in their first 17 overs on Monday.

END OF AUSTRALIA’S FIRST

Jasprit Bumrah took one more wicket on Monday in the 106th over, completing his six-wicket haul. He dismissed Mitchell Starc on a delivery that nicked the outside edge of his bad, before being caught by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant.

Mohammed Siraj took his second wicket next, in the 117th over, dismissing Nathan Lyon who only managed to score two runs off 30 deliveries.

Alex Carey would be the last man to fall for England. He scored 70 runs before attempting to smash the ball for six, but instead only got the toe end of the bat to make contact, sending the ball to deep mid-wicket where Shubman Gill took the catch.

The pressure was on India after Australia made an intimidating score of 445. And it seems they couldn’t handle it.

INDIA CRUMBLE

Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to a good start, hitting a four immediately between gully and fourth slip on the very first ball of the innings. Unfortunately for India, he was sent off on the second ball of the innings. Jaiswal attempted to flick the delivery from Starc, but instead sent the ball to Mitchell Marsh at forward square leg.

In came Gill, and on the third ball he faced, he too became a victim of the deadly Starc and Marsh duo. On the first ball of the third over, Gill would botch an attempt at a cover drive, sending the delivery from Starc to gully, where Marsh dove to his left to take an astounding catch.

Virat Kohli would replace Gill, but he too would be dismissed after making a dismal three runs. A delivery from Josh Hazlewood in the seventh over would brush the outside edge of Kohli’s bat, and Carey would do the rest.

Rain would then come down on the pitch, delaying the match again and again. In one of the many short-lived sessions, Rishabh Pant would be sent off after failing to defend a delivery from Pat Cummins, which found the edge of Pant’s bat before Carey caught it.

India ended the day after conceding four wickets, only scoring 51 runs in the process.
