The first alleged statement of deposed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since the end of his regime and his escape from the country has come to light.
According to a foreign news agency, in a statement issued on the Telegram account of the Syrian President’s office, Bashar al-Assad said that he never sought office for personal gain, he believed in the security of the state until the last moment, and now the country is in the hands of terrorists.

He added that he was still in Syria till the night of December 8. After the advance of the rebels, they moved to the Hmeimim military base in Latakia, which is held by the Russian army. He was transferred from Syria to Russia due to drone attacks on a Russian military base.
He said that when the state is in the hands of terrorists and the capacity to play a meaningful role is lost, then being in office becomes meaningless.
