
Villarreal continue to struggle with draw against Roya Vallecano

VILLARREAL: Villarreal continued to struggle on Wednesday against Roya Vallecano, earning their sixth draw of the season. They have now gone winless in their last six outings.
Villarreal found themselves with a chance in the ninth minute. After Pedro Diaz was stripped of the ball, Yeremy Pino had a shot on target, and Augusto Batalla had his first save of the game.
Roya Vallecano’s Sergio Camello would play the ball into the Villarreal box in the 20th minute, setting up Alvaro Garcia, who capitalised with a shot along the ground into the bottom left corner. Celebrations were cut short as offside was called. But, after a VAR review, the goal was given.
Things would get worse for Villarreal in the 32nd minute, after defender Willy Kambwala was sent off with a red card for a reckless tackle that floored Oscar Valentin. The team was now down by one goal and one player.
However, that wouldn’t stop them from creating opportunities. In the 37th minute, Sergi Cardona would send a lob into the Roya Vallecano’s box, finding Ayoze Perez whose shot was blocked thanks to some acrobatics from Batalla.

Two minutes later, Villarreal would be back on the attack. A cross from Thierno Barry would connect with the head of Perez, but the shot was well wide. But, the pressure Villarreal was exerting finally broke down Roya Vallecano’ right before the end of the half. Denis Suarez would send a short pass Perez’s way, and a couple steps into the box later, Perez would send a stunner into the top left corner of the Roya Vallecano’s net, equalising the game.
The second half would feature a flurry of attempts from Roya Vallecano’s. In the 50th minute, Carmello would send a through ball to Jorge de Frutos, whose shot was off target by quite a margin. Four minutes later, Roya Vallecano’s would find themselves in the Villarreal box again. Diaz would receive the ball, setting up a shot for Carmello. Logan Costa saved the day as the ball deflected off him.
In the 80th minute, a cross from Garcia eventually found de Frutos for a shot. But once again, the ball ended up out of bounds, this time after ricocheting off Cardona. Villarreal would have one more attempt as well, as Juan Bernat would receive a pass insdie the Roya Vallecano’s box. After fighting off a defender, he’d have a go at goal, but Batalla was inches away and ready to make another save.
The game ended in a draw, 1-1. Villarreal are currently 5th in La Liga, with seven wins, six draws, and four losses. Rayo Vallecano are 12th, with 5 wins, six draws, and six losses.
