First ever Annual Girl’s National Volleyball Tournament heats up

KARACHI: The first ever Annual Girl’s National Volleyball Tournament is taking place all across Pakistan, and is being hosted by the Empower Sports Academy, in collaboration with the Pakistan Volleyball Federation and Dr. Essa Laboratory. It began on December 16 and the finals will take place on December 23.

The tournament allowed clubs, schools, universities, departments, and companies to participate, with teams being charged a Rs 1000 fee to enter. In return, the tournament not only offers Rs 900,000 in prize money, with first place taking Rs 500,000, second place Rs 250,000, and third place 150,000, but also a platform for female athletes to gain experience through competition and have an opportunity to further their sports careers.

Referring to the ongoing event Alisha Junaid, the CEO of the non-profit Empower Sports Academy, and the founder of the National Volleyball tournament, shared how it exceeded her expectations.

“I did not expect that so many teams would be a part of this tournament,” Alisha said, adding that she and her team “are committed to supporting these girls, enhancing their skills, and giving them new opportunities.”

Alisha said that “we are organising this event in Karachi to showcase Pakistan’s talent” and that she invites “everyone to come to the final match one Monday.”

She encouraged sports lovers and families to “come and encourage the girls” as the entry is free.

Khushbakht Shujaat, former senator, expressed her excitement for the event.

“This is a great event,” she said, explaining that she is happy to see such excellent participation from girls that have come from far and wide to play. Shujaat added that “the team with the best performing players will be prepared for the Olympics.”

With the opportunity to compete in one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world on the line, all eyes will be on the finals which is set for December 23 in Karachi.

Currently, the quarterfinals are taking place at the Pakistan Sports Board volleyball court.
