MELBOURNE: Australia ended the first day of the fourth test against India with a score 311, losing six wickets along the way.
Four Aussies made a half century on Thursday, including 19-year-old debutant Sam Konstas, who had a brief run in with Virat Kohli at the end of the tenth over. Konstas would use that altercation as motivation, scoring 60 runs off 65 deliveries before he was dismissed on an lbw by Ravindra Jadeja in the 20th over.
Together with Usman Khawaja, Konstas put up a partnership of 89 runs. Khawaja would go on to have another great partnership with Marnus Labuschagne, as the two scored 65 runs. Khawaja’s innings would end in the 45th over, but not before he scored 57 runs. Jaspirit Bumrah would dismiss him on a ball that Khawaja popped up to Rahul at mid-wicket.

Marnus Labuschagne has the highest score of the innings so far, with 72 runs made off 145 deliveries. After the 65 run partnership with Khawaja, he would be part of an 83 run partnership with Steven Smith. Labuschagne would be dismissed on a delivery from Washington Sundar in the 66th over that was taken by Kohli at mid-off.
Travis Head would come in to replace him and was sent off for a duck in the next over, as Bumrah bowled him. Mitchell Marsh was next up, and the next to fall not long after Head. Bumrah took his third wicket on a delivery that found the outside edge of Marsh’s bat, before Rishabh Pant took the catch.
Alex Carey was the last batter to fall for Australia, but before he did, he scored 31 runs off 41 balls. Akash Deep was the one to take the wicket, on a delivery that brushed against the edge of Carrey’s bat. Pant did the rest by taking his second catch.
The first day ended after 86 overs and four half centuries. Australia stand at 311 for 6.
