Islamabad Police claims 31% reduction in crimes

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police has reported a 31 percent reduction in crime rates from September 1 to December 10, 2024.

According to a report submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the National Assembly, 5,428 incidents were reported in the capital from September 1 to December 10, 2024, compared to 7,907 incidents during the same period in 2023.

The decrease has been attributed to proactive police strategies, including increased patrols, better surveillance and crime prevention programs.

According to the report, despite the heavy responsibilities of important duties like security of foreign diplomats and dignitaries, the ICT Police effectively managed the law and order situation in the capital.

ICT Police successfully handled more than 4,000 events and protests from January 1 to December 10, 2024.

A local security expert noted that the police have played an effective role in tackling major crimes, but more focus on community policing and the adoption of new technology could further curb crime.

According to the report, the ICT Police has taken several measures to improve public safety and prevent crime. These include monitoring crime hotspots, slum surveys and addressing potential threats through intelligence-based policing.

The police also conducted surveillance of suspects, data profiling of prisoners on parole, and 24-hour patrolling.
