In 2023-24, Pakistan’s exports with SAARC countries were 2 billion 18 million dollars while imports were 917.2 million dollars.
According to the details presented in the Senate by the Ministry of Commerce, Pakistan’s highest exports were recorded with Afghanistan, which was more than one billion dollars, while imports remained at 540 million dollars.
Exports with Bangladesh were 72 million dollars while imports were 42 million dollars. Pakistan’s exports with Sri Lanka stood at $390 million, while imports reached $5.5 million.
Despite the tension with India, exports are negligible, but imports were recorded at 278 million dollars.
Exports with Maldives were 9.1 million dollars while imports were 1 million dollars, total exports with Nepal were 2.9 million dollars while imports were 3.1 million dollars.
Pakistan’s trade relations with SAARC countries not only strengthen economic ties but are also important for mutual cooperation and development in South Asia.
Promotion of trade relations with a neighboring country like Afghanistan can be beneficial for Pakistan’s economic development, while trade relations with India are limited due to political tensions. However, strong trade links with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other SAARC countries provide opportunities for economic stability and growth in the region for Pakistan.
