If everything goes as per plan, Jasprit Bumrah could be included in the Champions Trophy squad. ESPNcricinfo has learned that the reason behind his not bowling on the fifth day of the Sydney Test was due to an injury related to stress workload.
It is also understood that in the initial investigation, no stress fracture was found in his back. But the discomfort that Bumrah felt was due to his workload. After this, after consulting medical experts, it was decided to give rest to Bumrah for at least five weeks (after the Sydney Test ended on 7 January). After this another scan will be done, which will decide whether he can start playing or not.
If Bumrah is declared fit, then under the tentative plan prepared by the BCCI, his match fitness will be tested by his inclusion in the last match of the ODI series against England on 12 February.
Currently, Bumrah’s name is likely to be included in India’s Champions Trophy squad subject to fitness.
