”
Peshawar:
The PTI on Monday expressed serious concerns over the ban on meetings with its incarcerated founding chairman Imran Khan, urging the judiciary to take notice of the restrictions.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s information cell, for allegedly violating court orders by denying access to Imran.
He warned that if the situation persisted, the party would be forced to resort to protests. “The law allows meetings with Imran Khan, but under government directives, jail authorities are refusing access,” he added.
He lamented that despite court orders permitting meetings with lawyers, political colleagues and family members, the government remained adamant in its refusal.
The PTI leader further alleged that Imran Khan was being kept in solitary confinement in a death cell and that even obtaining court orders did not guarantee access.
“Despite contempt of court, neither political allies nor family members are allowed to meet him. Even the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister has been denied permission,” he claimed.
Raising concerns over Imran’s legal rights, he questioned how the former prime minister could consult his lawyers when facing multiple cases. He accused the authorities of blatantly disregarding court orders, even blocking Imran from receiving books.
“His meetings with his wife have been postponed twice, and his children have not been allowed to see him despite court directives,” he added. PTI has filed a contempt of court petition, urging the judiciary to intervene and ensure compliance with legal provisions.
Criticising the federal government’s Ramazan relief package, Waqas said that giving Rs5,000 per family amid high inflation was unjust.
